Lifespan of Shared Links

Bit.ly conducted a study on the lifespan of shared links on social media. During the study Bit.ly looked at the half-life of links shared on different social networks with different types of content.

Bit.ly found that timely content links have a much shorter lifespan than content that can be enjoyed at any time, although timely content links will see a bigger spike in hits when it is at its most popular.

Bit.ly also found that the half-life of an average Bit.ly link on Facebook or Twitter is approximately three hours, but content on YouTube tends to last much longer, with an average half-life of seven hours.

  • 58% liked a brand because they are a customer
  • 57% liked a page because they wanted to receive discounts
  • 56% are more likely to recommend a brand after becoming a fan on Facebook

Mobile - iSatisfy

Apple topped a smartphone satisfaction survey by J.D. Power and Associates  for the sixth year in a row. Apple scored high in ease of operation and features and performance and design. Second place went to HTC, followed by Samsung, Motorola and RIM. Users prefer phones that are touchscreen only and have a high mega-pixel camera.

Mobile Rise to the Top

A new study by IDC tells us that by 2015 more people in the US will access the internet using mobile devices than those useing desktop computers. Much of this is because of faster 4G network speeds and increased coverage, similar to a computer, but being readily available almost all the time. It is predicted that mobile web use will grow 16.6% between 2010 and 2015, while the number of mobile users will increase from 2 billion to 2.7 billion - about 40% of the global population.
