Link Building is Hard Work

Link building is hard and tedious work but it will pay off in the long run. When compared to buying links, traditional link building is the best way to bring links and traffic to your site. Buying links could potentially put your site in Google's radar and black list.

Directories are still the best and safest way to build traffic to a site. Google does not endorse buying links and the only directories it really does supports are Yahoo! directory, Best of Web directory and the business.com directory. The reason for this is their strict editorial process. It is important to build links sparingly and it is important, if buying links, that it is done in conjunction with link-building.

Five categories to consider when buying links:

  1. Relevance of the content to your website
  2. Page ranking of the website. This is especially vital for paid links
  3. Traffic going to the site providing the link
  4. Placement of the link - Favor links in a page with good content and that is related to your website content.
  5. Price of the link - will it provide value that is worth the investment. Also, if paying for links, make sure that you are not adding more than a couple per week.
If you want to purchase links anyway, there are a couple of companies that help find links for sale. You do have to be careful so that your site is not penalized by the search engines. There are some companies with good track record of meeting the basic criteria for search engines: TextLinkAds; LinkMetro; LinkMarket.net; LinkWorth and LinkAdage.
Link Building is hard work - Some ideas:
  1. Send out Press Releases to news organizations and PR sites - attracts visitors and creates new links
  2. Blogs - Good way to get relevant content and links
  3. Community Forums - Posting comments in forums and discussion boards where you can find communities that interested in your products and services
  4. Organizations
  5. Social Bookmarking - There is probably no better way to build links than the social media channels.
Link popularity is critical for search engine ranking but it should be done the right way to avoid penalties and even possibly being banned from Google. It should be done ethically!
